Held opponents to a .200 batting average (11th) and a .279 on-base pct. (8th)... Led the Orioles with 122 strikeouts, one more than Rodrigo Lopez... Marked the first time an Orioles reliever led the club in strikeouts and the first time in the majors since Duane Ward led Toronto's staff in 1991... Was 2nd in the league in strikeouts by a reliever, one less than Anaheim's Francisco Rodriguez... His 12.62 K/9IP was 3rd in the league and 2nd-best in Orioles history behind Armando Benitez's 13.01 in 1997... Yielded a solo home run to Ken Harvey at Kansas City on July 19, the first homer he allowed since New York's Ruben Sierra took him deep on June 30, 2003, a club-record 81 games between homers... Pitched 1.2 innings and earned a save in the season opener on April 4 vs. Boston, his first save since August 23, 2002... Was named as the closer in the final two weeks of the season and went 2-for-2 in that role, with both saves coming in his final four outings of the year.

Was 2nd among American League relievers with 11.26 strikeouts/9 IP, behind Seattle's Rafael Soriano (11.55)... Also ranked among AL relief leaders in holds (T6th, 19) and inherited runners held (16th, 71.6%)... Inherited 74 runners, more than any other major league reliever... Earned the win without throwing a pitch in the first game of a doubleheader on May 1 at Detroit, entering with two outs in the 7th and picking off Omar Infante... The O's took the lead in the top of the 8th inning and Ryan was replaced on the mound... STATS, Inc. records show no other pitcher winning a game without throwing a pitch since they began tracking pitches in 1986.

Earned the win August 2 vs. Toronto, pitching 0.2 innings and stranding a runner... Was tied for the minor league lead with 46 appearances at the time of his promotion and had made only 79 minor league appearances in his career... Made his Major League debut on July 28 at Los Angeles, his only appearance for the Reds... Was optioned to Indianapolis on July 30 and was traded to the Orioles the next day... Joined Rochester (AAA) before his contract was purchased by the Orioles on August 27... Made his Orioles debut on August 29 at Detroit... Earned his first major league win on September 13 vs. Seattle with 1.1 scoreless relief innings... His longest outing came in the final game of the season on October 1 vs. Boston when he pitched 3.2 innings of no-hit relief and struck out five.

In first pro season, progressed from Rookie League Billings to AA Chattanooga, with a brief stop at Class A Charleston (SC)... Ranked 5th among Cincinnati's minor league pitchers with 10 saves... With Billings, finished 3rd among Pioneer League relief pitchers with 12.05 K/9 IP ratio.
