2007

Missed the final 48 games of the season after going on the 15-day disabled list on 8/12 and underwent surgery for a torn medial meniscus in his right knee on 8/14 by Dr. Lew Yocum in Los Angeles. Returned to the Cardinals on 12/1/06, signing as a free agent. Was originally drafted by St. Louis in the first round of the June 1997 draft and was traded to Anaheim along with Kent Bottenfield for OF Jim Edmonds 3/23/00. He became the fifth different starter at second base on Opening Day in the last five seasons for STL ('03- Vina, '04-Womack, '05-Grudzielanek, '06-Miles, '07-Kennedy). Appeared in one game at shortstop, one game in right field and 78 at second. Batted leadoff in 15 starts and hit .246. The majority of batting time came from the 7-8-9 spots in the order, making 52 starts from those slots. Tripled on Opening Day...it had been 3,336 at-bats between that triple and his last Cardinals hit, a single on 10/1/99 vs. CHI. Had pair of hits (both 2B's) 4/26 vs. CIN and 2-run, 2-out double in the 4th inning on 4/22 at CHI & walked twice. Scored a season-high 3 runs 5/19 at DET.
