Diagnosed with Keratoconus (ker-UH-toe-KOH-nus) in college, a condition where the clear tissue on the front of the eye bulges outward, leading to blurry vision and making it difficult to comfortably wear contacts ¡ After the cancellation of the Minor League season in May, he had Corneal Cross-Linking surgery on both of his eyes, a procedure where doctors use eye drop medication and ultraviolet (UV) light from a special machine to make the tissues in the cornea stronger and keep it from bulging more ¡ Returned for rehab in Arizona three weeks after the procedure ¡ Is a 2016 graduate of Basic High School in Henderson, Nev. ¡ Named First-Team All-State as a utility player (shortstop and pitcher) as a senior ¡ hit .415 while going 7-2 with a 1.91 ERA and 57 strikeouts to help the team to a state championship win ¡ Attended the University of Oregon from 2017-19 ¡ Was a 2019 First-Team All-Pac-12 selection after going 3-4 with a 4.29 ERA (31 ER in 65.0 IP) in 23 games (four starts) with a conference-high 104 strikeouts ¡ finished fourth in the nation with a 14.40 K/9.0 IP ¡ Was a two-way player as a freshman and sophomore before transitioning to just pitching his junior year, primarily as a reliever.
