Came to San Diego from Detroit with INF Chris Gomez in a June 18 trade for C Brad Ausmus, P Russ Spear and INF Andujar Cedeno...Went hitless in his first 10 ABs with Padres, and failed to hit the ball out of the infield in his first 2 games, then embarked on a 27-game hitting streak, June 21 thru July 27, the 2nd longest ever by a major league catcher and the 2nd longest by a Padre...Benito Santiago held both marks with San Diego in 1987 (34 games).
