The CASE (Careers As Sports Executives) Study Program is a free sports executive study program for high school students who are interested in sports 每 and perhaps careers in sports 每 but who would not otherwise have the opportunity to get the training, experience and tutelage to pursue entry-level jobs in the industry.
CASE helps students from underrepresented minority groups build their professional sports knowledge and network by providing relevant instruction and actionable insights. Together, we explore all that the sports industry has to offer as students consider pursuing their passion as a career.
Program Overview
CASE was created in 2018 by executives at the Chicago Cubs who sought to address the disparity in opportunities for youth to pursue careers in professional sports. Among the founders was Scott Harris who served as the Cubs Assistant General Manager (2012-2019) prior to his years as Giants General Manager (2019-2022). In September 2022, with the help of Harris, the Cubs and the San Francisco Unified School District＊s Office of College and Career Readiness, the Giants Community Fund launched a new CASE chapter in San Francisco.
Since 2022, over 50 students from Burton, Galileo and Mission High School have participated in the San Francisco Chapter of the CASE Study Program. Over the course of the four-week program, students tuned in virtually twice a week to meet with and learn from sports executives.
The program culminated with students presenting their final research presentations at Oracle Park and receiving their program certificates.
