Giants announce additions to front office
Former GM Evans returns to organization as special advisor to Posey
The Giants continued to overhaul their front office by announcing four additions to their baseball operations department on Friday.
As expected, former general manager Bobby Evans returned to the organization as a special advisor to president of baseball operations Buster Posey. Evans was joined by Jeff Berry, who served as Posey¡¯s agent before leaving CAA earlier this year.
The Giants also named Hadi Raad as their new director of pro scouting and brought in Pike Goldschmidt to be their new director of baseball strategy.
Raad, who will replace the recently promoted Zack Minasian, came over from the Pirates organization, where he served as a professional evaluation team leader for the past two seasons. A Wheaton College alum, Raad got his start as a baseball operations department intern with the Yankees in 2012 and also held player development and scouting roles with the Marlins and Rangers.
Goldschmidt, an East Bay native and a graduate of Albany High School, spent the past eight seasons working for the A¡¯s, rising to become the organization¡¯s director of baseball development last year. He played baseball at Amherst College and landed baseball operations gigs with the Pirates and Orioles before joining the A¡¯s in 2017.
Posey previously elevated Minasian to GM and named former outfielder Randy Winn his new vice president of player development. The newcomers are expected to help fill out a front office that has experienced significant turnover following the dismissal of former baseball operations chief Farhan Zaidi in late September. Former GM Pete Putila and director of baseball analytics Michael Schwartze, among the most notable departures, recently left to take new roles in the Braves¡¯ front office.
Zaidi, meanwhile, is talking to the Dodgers about a possible return to the organization, according to a report from The Athletic¡¯s Ken Rosenthal and Fabian Ardaya (subscription required). Before being hired by the Giants in November 2018, Zaidi served as Los Angeles¡¯ GM for four seasons under Andrew Friedman and was credited with helping the Dodgers unearth such key contributors as Max Muncy and Chris Taylor.
