CC Sabathia Elected to National Baseball Hall of Fame
Cleveland, OH ¨C The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum tonight announced the 2025 results of the annual Baseball WritersĄŻ Association of America Hall of Fame election. Retired Cleveland pitcher CC SABATHIA appeared on 87% of the ballots cast in his first year of eligibility, earning induction into the Hall of Fame as a member of the 2025 class.
Sabathia, 44, was ClevelandĄŻs first round pick and 20th overall selection in the 1998 MLB Draft, making his MLB debut in 2001 at 20-years-old. During his rookie campaign, Sabathia recorded 171 strikeouts, the second-most all-time by a Cleveland rookie, and was voted AL Rookie of the Year behind fellow 2025 Hall of Fame inductee, Ichiro Suzuki.
During his Cleveland Career, he etched his name in the franchise record books, becoming ClevelandĄŻs second Cy Young winner in 2007, compiling a 19-7 record in 34 starts, leading MLB with 241.0 innings pitched. In Cleveland franchise history, Sabathia ranks 7th in strikeouts (1,265), 13th in wins (106) and 15th in Innings Pitched (1,528.2). For seven seasons, Sabathia recorded 11+ wins, tying him with Sam McDowell for the most by a Cleveland left-hander. He was a three-time All-Star with Cleveland, a member of two AL Central Championship clubs (2001 & 2007), and one of 10 pitchers in Cleveland history with three-or-more All-Star selections.
The Vallejo, California native retired following the 2019 season and currently ranks 18th in the history of Major League Baseball in strikeouts (3,093) and is tied with Hall of Famers Bob Gibson and Al Spalding for 47th all-time in wins (251). Sabathia led the Brewers to the Postseason in 2008 and joined the Yankees in 2009, earning ALCS MVP as he helped guide New York to a World Series title. IN 2010, he became the 14th member of the Black Aces with a 21-win season.
Sabathia becomes the 34th Hall of Famer to spend part of their career with Cleveland and only the third player drafted and signed by the club to earn induction (Dennis Eckersley, 1972 draft, Jim Thome, 1989 draft).
