MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers will celebrate the life of late radio broadcaster Bob Uecker with programming before and during the team¡¯s Aug. 24 series finale against the Giants at American Family Field.
Uecker, the voice of the Brewers for 54 seasons who gained worldwide fame as an actor and entertainer but was beloved in Milwaukee because he always came home, passed away on Jan. 16 after a multi-year cancer battle, 10 days before his 91st birthday. He was laid to rest in a private burial on Jan. 24 and celebrated by family and friends in an invitation-only program during the Brewers¡¯ opening homestand. The Aug. 24 event will be fans¡¯ first opportunity to come together publicly to grieve, laugh and give thanks for the rich life of one of Wisconsin¡¯s most famous sons.

¡°We continue to mourn Bob¡¯s passing, but we feel his presence every day at the ballpark and in our lives,¡± Brewers president of business operations Rick Schlesinger said in a statement announcing details of the event. ¡°Aug. 24 will offer all of us an opportunity to come together to celebrate Bob¡¯s life and relive the countless, unforgettable memories he created so effortlessly.¡±
Bob Costas, the Emmy Award-winning broadcaster and longtime close friend of Uecker, will host a pregame program on the field with appearances from surprise guests and videos with rarely-seen content from Bob¡¯s storied life. Other details will follow as the date approaches, but here is what the Brewers and the Uecker family have planned so far:
? All ticketed fans will receive a lapel pin featuring the Uecker uniform patch design worn by the Brewers this season -- available only on this date and not for sale.
? The Brewers and Giants will use baseballs and bases that feature a Uecker Celebration logo, which will be used during this one game only.
? The Brewers are preparing scoreboard features to air regularly throughout breaks in the game, spotlighting Uecker¡¯s many stops through the world of baseball and entertainment, including some personal home film.
? The day¡¯s Brewers Charities 50-50 Raffle proceeds will benefit three charities supported by Uecker throughout his life: Wounded Warrior Project, The ALS Association and the Medical College of Wisconsin Bob Uecker Chair for Cancer Research.
¡°As we continue to navigate the loss of Bob, we¡¯re truly grateful to the Brewers for hosting this Celebration of Life,¡± said Bob Uecker Jr. ¡°We look forward to coming together to honor his memory and share in the meaningful moments of the day.¡±
Tickets for that day¡¯s Brewers-Giants game are available at mlb.com/brewers/tickets or via the team¡¯s box office.
¡°It¡¯s definitely different without him here,¡± said Brewers star Christian Yelich prior to Milwaukee¡¯s home opener. ¡°He¡¯s a big part of this place, especially for guys that have been here for a while. ¡ Obviously, we all miss him and wish he was here, but I think he¡¯ll be with us for this season and many seasons going forward.¡±
