Graduated from North Stanly High School in New London, N.C., where he pitched a pair of no-hitters as a junior...Twice was named to the North Carolina All-State team...Was a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club and president of North Stanly chapter of the National Art Honor Society...As a junior led Wake Forest to its third College World Series (1949, 1955, 2023) after establishing program single-season records in wins (15) and strikeouts (143) while pitching the fourth-most innings (120.1) in school history...That season led the nation in wins while ranking fourth in both strikeouts and ERA (1.87)...In the 2023 College World Series, in his final collegiate appearance threw seven shutout innings against eventual national champion LSU.

On 8/29 was added to the taxi squad...On 8/30 had his contract selected from AAA-Louisville...Made his Major League debut that night vs. MIL in Game 2 of a doubleheader...Became the ninth Red to make his Major League debut in 2024...Became the fifth Red since 1999 to make his Major League debut within a year of being drafted (last: Tony Cingrani - drafted in 2011, debuted in 2012)...On 9/5 vs. HOU became the eighth Reds pitcher since 1901 (last: Graham Ashcraft, 6.1 IP, 5/27/22 vs. SF) to produce a start of 6.1+ scoreless innings within his first two Major League outings...At 22 years and 181 days old, became the youngest Redlegs starter with 6.1 scoreless innings pitched since Johnny Cueto (6.1 IP, 22Y/134D) on 6/28/08 at CLE...Became the sixth Reds pitcher since 1893 to allow one run or fewer in each of his first two-plus Major League starts (min. 4 IP/GS), joining Andrew Abbott (3 G, 2023), Reiver Sanmartin (2 G, 2021), John Bale (2 G, 2003), Wayne Simpson (3 G, 1970) and Bob Spade (2 G, 1907)...On 9/10 at STL earned his first Major League win after tossing five scoreless innings (5 H, 3 K)...With that scoreless start joined Andrew Abbott (2023) and Wayne Simpson (1970) as the only Reds since 1893 to allow one run or fewer in each of his first three starts at the Major League level (min. 4 IP/GS)...No Red in that span has accomplished the feat in each of his first four starts at the Major League level.
