SEPTEMBER

In the month of September, Reds Country Cares is focusing on Suicide Prevention. There are a number of organizations with resources to help you or the ones you love.
1N5

The mission of 1N5 is to prevent suicide by erasing the stigma of mental illness and promoting optimal mental wellness.
We achieve this mission through education and stigma reduction, community engagement, policy and advocacy, and measurement and data work. 1N5 is focused on making a difference in how we talk about mental health. Our youth are in crisis, with 20% of youth ages 13-18 living with a mental health condition. Join us to START the conversation, together we can make a positive difference and STOP the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Let¡¯s talk!

988 Initiative

Cincinnati area high schooler Jake Hertzman started the 988 Initiative to raise awareness for the new suicide prevention lifeline number that launched in July 2022. People can call or text 988 to talk to a trained counselor for help or if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support. The lifeline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to promoting the new 3-digit number, the 988 initiative creates conversation around mental health and suicide prevention by working with area schools and businesses.

Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation

The Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation is a non-profit organization that works tirelessly to prevent one of our most preventable causes of death: suicide. Our work includes reducing the stigma of suicide, promoting evidence-based prevention strategies, and raising awareness about suicide¡¯s relationship to mental illness, alcohol, drug abuse, and other issues. Our community-based programs and best-practice resources are specifically designed to improve mental health across the state. Thanks to a combination of education, training, and support, we¡¯re helping all of Ohio¡¯s communities reduce the risk of suicide and lessen its effects on family, friends, and neighbors.
