NEW YORK -- A day after he announced that he would not play in the All-Star Game in Seattle on Tuesday, Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 6, because of a left heel contusion
Swanson hurt his heel running the bases against the Brewers during Wednesday night¡¯s 4-3 victory. The 29-year-old is hoping that rest during the All-Star break will help get him back on the field as soon as possible. Swanson will not be traveling to Seattle to watch the All-Star festivities, planning to instead return home and rest.

¡°It is unfortunate to get into this position,¡± Swanson said on Saturday. ¡°The biggest thing -- just from a timing standpoint -- I¡¯m getting four days with the [All-Star] break. It was almost, in a way, like a good insurance policy not to lose some retroactive dates. So, it stinks. I¡¯m making the best decision possible for the group. Hopefully I¡¯ll get back in there soon.¡±
