Yanks add Chac¨ªn, 2 others on Minors deals
The Yankees have signed right-hander Jhoulys Chacín, left-hander Tyler Lyons and outfielder Socrates Brito to Minor League contracts.
Chac¨ªn has the most MLB experience of the three, appearing in 12 big league seasons and throwing 1,324 innings in 257 appearances, including 226 starts.
The 33-year-old righty has struggled in 108 1/3 innings for the Brewers, Red Sox and Braves over the past two seasons (6.06 ERA, 75 ERA+), but he had a 3.86 ERA (112 ERA+) from 2009-18, making appearances with the Rockies, D-backs, Braves, Angels, Padres and Brewers in that span.
Lyons, who will turn 33 in February, made one appearance for the Yankees in 2020, allowing four runs in 1 2/3 innings. The veteran southpaw has a lifetime 4.30 ERA (93 ERA+) over 162 big league appearances (20 starts) for the Cardinals, Pirates and Yanks. He has been more effective against left-handed batters, holding them to a .642 OPS in his career, compared to a .767 mark vs. righty hitters.
Brito, meanwhile, has recorded a .179/.216/.309 slash line with five homers in 218 career plate appearances for the D-backs and Blue Jays. Among MLB¡¯s faster runners, the 28-year-old can play all three outfield positions.
