MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers added a candidate to their third-base mix on Thursday in former San Francisco Giants farmhand Zach Green, who signed a Minor League contract with Milwaukee that includes an invitation to big league Spring Training camp.
Green, 26, is a right-handed hitter who put up solid offensive numbers in each of the past two Minor League seasons. He slashed .281/.356/.532 during an ¡¯18 season split between the Double-A and Triple-A levels, then hit 25 home runs in 252 Triple-A at-bats in ¡¯19 while slashing .282/.380/.659.
He also made a brief Major League debut in 2019 with the Giants that spanned eight games and 16 plate appearances. A former high school teammate of the Phillies¡¯ Rhys Hoskins in Sacramento, Calif., Green broke into professional baseball as Philadelphia¡¯s third-round Draft pick in 2012 but has since endured surgeries on his wrist, elbow and hip.
Green was part of the Giants¡¯ 60-man player pool in 2020 but did not make it up to the Major Leagues during the shortened season.
