Fried (left forearm neuritis) lands on Braves' injured list
The Braves rotation suffered a significant blow on Sunday, as All-Star left-hander Max Fried was placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Thursday, with left forearm neuritis. The team recalled left-hander Dylan Dodd in a corresponding move.
Fried, who threw a scoreless inning for the National League team in the All-Star Game, is 7-5 with a 3.08 ERA in 108 innings this season, with 95 strikeouts and 34 walks issued. In his most recent start, he held the D-backs to one run in six innings, though he took the loss in a 1-0 defeat.
¡°He felt [the injury] when he was doing arm circles before he pitched at the All-Star Game,¡± Braves manager Brian Snitker said prior to Sunday¡¯s series finale against the Cardinals. ¡°He felt a little something, he pitched, he got through his inning. When he came [to Truist Park] Friday, he could still feel something so he wanted to get it checked out. They did the MRI.
¡°It¡¯s probably a best-case scenario. He¡¯s gonna have to miss a little time. Nothing showed on the MRI or anything. They¡¯ll just put him down until he¡¯s asymptomatic and he¡¯ll start throwing again.¡±
Fried, who will be a free agent following the 2024 season, is 69-31 with a 3.04 career ERA in 157 games (140 starts), all for Atlanta.
