Terry McGuirk

Chairman

Terry McGuirk is Chairman & CEO of Braves Holdings, LLC, the parent company of the Atlanta Braves and Braves Development Company. In his role as Chairman and Control Person of the Atlanta Braves, McGuirk maintains executive oversight of all aspects of the Braves franchise including all team and player personnel operations, business operations, Truist Park and representation of the Braves at Major League Baseball ownership meetings. McGuirk is also the Chairman of Braves Development Company, the Braves real estate development entity that owns and operates The Battery Atlanta mixed use development adjacent to Truist Park.

In 2021, McGuirk oversaw the holistic organizational efforts that culminated in the Braves' fourth World Series title.

McGuirk spent 35 years at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS), beginning in 1972 as an account executive with WTCG, which later became TBS Superstation. In 1973, he assumed the same role at TBS-owned WRET in Charlotte, N.C. McGuirk returned to Atlanta in 1975 as director of cable relations, where he was instrumental in the launch of TBS Superstation and played a key role in the launch of every Turner network through 2001.

In 1978, McGuirk was named director of special projects for TBS, Inc. and in 1979, was appointed vice president of TBS, Inc. From 1987 to 1991, he served as president of Turner Network Sales and CNN International Sales, Ltd., where he set up the company¡¯s international sales and distribution operations. He was elected to the TBS, Inc. board of directors in July 1987. Concurrently, McGuirk was president of Turner Sports where, during his tenure, he was instrumental in securing coverage of the Olympics for cable television for the first time and oversaw the resurgence of the winningest team in baseball, the Atlanta Braves.

As executive vice president, McGuirk served as the company¡¯s second in command from 1991 to 1996. When TBS, Inc. merged with Time Warner Inc. in 1996, he succeeded R.E. (Ted) Turner as chairman, president and CEO.

He served as chairman and chief executive officer of the company until March 2001. From that point through December 2003, McGuirk was vice chairman of Turner Broadcasting System Inc., along with being chief executive officer of the company owned Atlanta sports teams, including the Major League Baseball Braves, the National Basketball Association Hawks and the National Hockey League Thrashers.

McGuirk has served on the board of many cable industry-related groups and the International Olympic Committee¡¯s Radio and Television Commission. He was the 1989 recipient of the NCTA Vanguard Award for Young Leadership and was inducted into the fellowship of Cable Television Pioneers at the 1996 NCTA Convention.

A native of Bayshore, N.Y., McGuirk is a graduate of Portsmouth Abbey School and holds a bachelor of arts degree in American history from Middlebury College.

McGuirk is on the MLB Executive Council and is the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Major League Baseball's Business and Media Committee, the successor to MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM). He also serves on the MLB Ownership Committee. McGuirk is the chairman of the newly formed Major League Baseball Media Committee.

He is a Trustee Emeritus of both Piedmont Healthcare and The Westminster Schools. McGuirk was the 2000 recipient of the Anti-Defamation League¡¯s Stewart Lewengrub Torch of Liberty Award. In 2006, he received the Governors Award from the southeastern chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and, in 2010, he entered the Cable Television Hall of Fame.

Terry and his wife, Nancy, live in Atlanta and have four children.
