Opened the season in the starting rotation and picked up his first win when he made his first start on April 5 at Washington...Tossed 7.0 innings of 1-run ball with 7 strikeouts on April 21 at San Francisco, but suffered the loss...Was moved to the bullpen on May 4, appearing in relief for 3 games...Had a 7-game win streak from May 25-Sept. 16, the longest streak of the season for a D-backs pitcher...Was 4-4 with a 4.67 ERA (32 ER in 62.1 IP) over 12 starts with the D-backs going 6-6 in those games...As a reliever, he was 4-0 with a 5.58 ERA (25 ER in 40.1 IP) over 20 relief appearances...The team was 5-15 in those contests...From Aug. 1-Sept. 16, he was 4-0 with a 2.93 ERA (9 ER in 27.2 IP) over 9 games (2 starts), striking out 10 and holding opponents to a .248 average...Tossed a career-high 4.0 innings of relief on 2 occasions (June 8 vs. Boston and Aug. 20 vs. Milwaukee)...in relief appearances in which he pitched 2.0 or more innings he was 4-0 with a 5.52 ERA (19 ER in 31.0 IP) over 11 games...Averaged just 5.1 innings per start over his 12 starts.

2006

Gonzalez went 3-4 with a 4.22 ERA in five starts and 11 appearances out of the bullpen. He was dominant in his last two starts of the year, giving up two earned runs over 14 innings and earning the victory on both occasions. Gonzalez also pitched well on Sept. 6 against the Marlins, but was the tough-luck loser opposite Anibal Sanchez's no-hitter. Gonzalez figures to be a candidate for the starting rotation in 2007.

2005

Spent most of the season with Triple-A Tucson. ... Improved his control a great deal compiling a 3-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. ... Was promoted to D-Backs on June 9 and made one relief appearance and allowed four runs in just 1/3 of an inning. ... Was optioned back to Tucson on June 12.

2004

Edgar began the season Tucson (AAA) but had a pair of stints on the Diamondbacks' roster, scuffling through an 0-9 year with a 9.32 ERA in 10 starts...according to the Elias Sports Bureau, Gonzalez was the fourth pitcher since 1946 season to go winless for an entire season with 9-or-more losses, joining Terry Felton (0-13 for Twins in 1982), Rod Beck (0-9 for Giants in 1996) and Heathcliff Slocumb (0-9 for Red Sox and Mariners in 1997)...he opened the year 1-5 in 7 starts with the Sidewinders, then earned his first of two recalls to the majors by virtue of strong starts on May 24-29 for Tucson, going 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA and holding opposing hitters to a .196 average (11-for-56)...Edgar was recalled on June 5 and made a spot start against Los Angeles, falling 10-3...he was optioned back to the minors the following day, then went 3-0 with a 3.79 ERAover his next 6 AAAoutings...included was a 2-hit shutout of Las Vegas on July 4, featuring a season-high 9 K's... he matched that strikeout total in his next outing, his final start of the year for Tucson, recording an 11-3 triumph over Sacramento...Edgar was recalled again on July 22 but lost each of his next 6 starts...despite the run of tough luck, Gonzalez displayed his potential at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park on August 29...though not scheduled to pitch that afternoon, Stephen Randolph couldn't answer the bell due to a stiff left shoulder, Gonzalez seized the chance to provide his best work of the year when he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning...although Edgar was unable to snap out of his 7-game slide due to an eventual 6-2 Arizona setback, he faced the minimum through the first 6.0 innings, allowing only a second inning walk that was erased by a double play...he finally allowed a hit in the seventh when, after a leadoff walk, Felipe Lopez hit a ground ball to first and Gonzalez hesitated before covering the bag and the no-hitter was history...after another double play ball, the shutout and potential win disappeared when Adam Dunn smacked a game-tying home run...after surrendering 25 runs in his first 4 starts, spanning just 16.2 innings, Edgar allowed only 10 earnies in his next 24.1 frames, for a 3.70 mark from August 7-29...a torn fingernail on the middle finger of his pitching kept Edgar out of action for about two and half weeks.

2003

Only 14 months after making his professional debut on a mound for South Bend (A), the 20-year-old right-hander made his big-league debut in 2003 ... born on February 23, 1983, he was the youngest player in the majors when he debuted on June 1, nearly 4 full months younger than pitcher Jeremy Bonderman of the Detroit Tigers (October 28, 1982) ... after spending his entire first pro season in Class-A, Edgar needed only 6 starts for Double-A El Paso, going 2-2 with a 3.50 ERA, before continuing his fast track with an early May promotion to Triple-A Tucson ... he picked up a win in his El Paso debut, blanking San Antonio for 7.0 innings with a season-high 9 strikeouts ... he moved up a level, going 3-2 in his first 5 starts for the Sidewinders and was most impressive in his last 2 appearances, combining them for 12.2 innings of shutout ball, allowing only 6 hits ... the streak began on May 23 in Tacoma, working the final 6.0 innings of an 8-0 victory allowing just a hit, picking up for John Patterson, who had made the start but was limited to only 3.0 innings of action because of his impending promotion to the majors ... Edgar's next outing featured 6.2 shutout innings vs. Portland on May 27, scattering 5 hits ... he had his contract purchased on June 1 when Matt Williams was designated for assignment, and toed the rubber that afternoon in San Diego, winning a 10-4 decision over the Padres, allowing 3 earned runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings with 3 walks and 4 K's ... he became the youngest hurler (20 years, 93 days) to win in the majors since Dennys Reyes recorded a win for the Dodgers over San Francisco on July 13, 1997, at 20 years, 85 days ... Los Angeles Dodger hurler Edwin Jackson later slipped past Gonzalez when he defeated the D-Backs on his 20th birthday on Sept. 9 ... Edgar was the fifth hurler to make his major league debut as a starter for the Diamondbacks, the second to win his debut game, joining Geraldo Guzman (July 6, 2000) ... he also quickly joined the club's all-time hit list by collecting a base hit off the Padres' Jake Peavy ... Edgar was the first Mexican-born player to make his debut as a starter, win and get a hit, all in the same game since Esteban Loaiza turned the trick for the Pirates on April 19, 1995 ...
