Science Series
The Science Series program, presented by Moderna, is the second installment of the Mets STEM platform. This program was designed to integrate science curriculum into schools by connecting it to the everyday operations of Citi Field. The AmazinĄ¯ Mets Foundation partners with Learn Fresh, a nonprofit organization dedicated to leveraging studentsĄ¯ passion for sports and entertainment to inspire STEM learning and support social-emotional development.
Schools participating in the Science Series program get an exclusive Mets-focused science curriculum to implement in their classrooms. The Mets provide teachers with six lesson plan topics to implement over the course of six months. Lessons include meteorology/weather patterns, photosynthesis/plant growth, water safety/conservation, recycling, composting, electricity/energy use and television connectivity.
To kick-off the program, participating students received a hands-on experience through a behind the scenes tour of Citi FieldĄ¯s ballpark operations, as it relates to the curriculum they will learn. Students had a chance to visit the weather room, floral shop, compost/recycling area and more.
1,500 sixth graders across four middle schools in Queens are participating in the 2024 program. Each participating student received a Science Series t-shirt, curriculum workbook, and will be given tickets to a 2025 Mets game following the completion of the program.
