Ahead of Monday¡¯s 3-1 win over the Braves, the Mets made several transactions to compensate for a banged-up lineup, which included selecting the contract of Johneshwy Fargas from Triple-A Syracuse.

Fargas went 1-for-3 in his Major League debut at Truist Park on Monday night with an eighth-inning RBI double off of Braves reliever Sean Newcomb.

Fargas was selected in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants. On Monday, the 26-year-old got his first start in the Majors, batting ninth and playing center field. Fargas has a .242 average and a .718 OPS this season in Triple-A, and he has been perfect on the basepaths with eight stolen bases.

¡°He¡¯s going to get his first Major League start, so a special day for that kid,¡± Mets manager Luis Rojas said. ¡°We know the value he can have in this lineup, the impact he can cause -- the ability to play center field and to play the other two positions. He can run at an elite speed, and he also has a bat. He¡¯s done a really good job for us in both camps last year, and we know the different tools that he can bring and can help the team score some runs and be better defensively.¡±

To increase their depth, the Mets also recalled outfielder Khalil Lee from Triple-A, who made his own debut as a pinch-runner in the seventh inning, after Kevin Pillar was hit by a pitch in the face and exited the game. Pillar has been hospitalized to undergo a CT scan. Lee stayed in to play right field and went 0-for-1 with a strikeout.

Lee will also be a valuable bat in New York¡¯s lineup. Lee has a .250 average and an OPS of .791 with Syracuse this season. Primarily a center fielder, the Mets will mainly use Lee at the corners to take advantage of his strong arm in the outfield.

¡°With a kid that can hit for power, he¡¯s got some speed as well and can play more in the corners as an outfielder, occasionally in center as well,¡± said Rojas. ¡°We¡¯ll look for the spot to bring in Khalil; we¡¯re playing a National League game again, so he¡¯s ready off the bench to come in if we need [him] at some point.¡±

The Mets made these moves following both Michael Conforto and Jeff McNeil being placed on the injured list after exiting Sunday¡¯s loss to Tampa Bay. Conforto is dealing with a strained right hamstring, whereas McNeil has a strained left hamstring. Both players will continue to receive treatment. The Mets are taking a week-to-week approach to see how each responds to their treatment.

Along with Monday¡¯s moves, righty Seth Lugo was transferred to the 60-day IL. Lugo¡¯s move is not alarming, as the Mets were already expecting for Lugo to be out until late May. Lugo will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A St. Lucie on Tuesday.

deGrom could return soon
As Mets fans long for the return of ace Jacob deGrom, that return could happen sooner rather than later.

Although deGrom is not ready to get back on the mound, he did throw off the bump on Monday and immediately gave Rojas positive feedback. deGrom is slated to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

¡°He gave me immediate good feedback ... so that¡¯s a plus. That's a huge step,¡± said Rojas. ¡°I thought it was huge that he went out there and threw off the slope, and as soon as he did it, he came in and talked to me.¡±

deGrom has been out since exiting against the D-backs on May 9, when he experienced tightness in his right side. As the Mets continue to monitor their All-Star¡¯s health, there is still the possibility for deGrom to return against the Marlins this weekend.

Rehab assignment updates
Despite New York going through an unfortunate string of injuries in its lineup, the Mets countered the news of Conforto and McNeil with some positive injury updates.

Noah Syndergaard is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Low-A St. Lucie on Wednesday, when he will get the start. Syndergaard still has a projected return date sometime in June.

The Mets also announced that J.D. Davis could be back for this weekend's series in Miami; Davis will get his first test on Tuesday when he begins his rehab assignment with Syracuse.
