Andrew (Drew) David Smith graduated from Crowley (TX) High School where he was named the 2012 District MVP...Graduated in the top five percent of his class and received the Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award...Pitched for the Mat-Su Miners of the Alaska Baseball League during the summer of 2013 and was named the league's fifth-best prospect by Baseball America...Other notable Alaska Baseball League alumni include Aaron Judge (2011), Paul Goldschmidt (2008) and Stephen Piscotty (2010)...Played collegiately at Dallas Baptist University for three seasons before being selected by Detroit in the third round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft...At the time of his drafting, Smith was the fifth-highest draft pick in school history. During the offseason, helps coach the Varsity Baseball team at his alma mater, Crowley High School...Would have been an engineer if he did not play baseball...Enjoys paddle boarding, cooking and golfing in the offseason...His favorite player growing up was Michael Young...Was a position player until he started pitching at 14 years old...His father owns a landscaping business, while his mother is the children’s director for his church...He had issues walking straight when he was younger...His father made him wear his size 12 cowboy boots so he was forced to walk with his toes facing forward...Is a big Dallas Cowboys fan.

2023

Set career-highs in games (62), innings (56.1) and strikeouts (60), while his four wins also set a career-high... Recorded his first career save on May 12 at Washington in his 126th career game...Struck out Lane Thomas to end the game with the tying and winning runs on base.

2022

Set career-highs in games (44), innings (46.0) and strikeouts (53), while his three wins tied a career-high set in 2021... Did not allow a run in his first 12 games of the season...Tossed a career-high 13.1 scoreless innings during that span...Was one of nine pitchers in franchise history to not give up a run in their first 12 games of the season... After returning from the Injured List on Sept. 20, allowed just one run over 5.0 innings in his final seven games of the regular season... Struck out four batters over 1.1 innings in the Mets combined no-hitter on April 29 vs. Philadelphia, the second no-hitter in franchise history... Struck out a career-high five batters on July 13 at Atlanta.

POSTSEASON: Appeared in his first career Postseason game, throwing 1.0 scoreless inning in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series on Oct. 9 vs. San Diego.

2021

Missed the first three weeks and the final six weeks of the year with right shoulder injuries...Set career-highs in games (31), innings (41.1), strikeouts (41), ERA (2.40), wins (three), and WHIP (1.05)...Led Mets relievers with 10 relief appearances of at least 2.0 innings...Had a career-best 9.2-inning scoreless streak from June 20-July 7...Tossed a career-high 2.2 innings on July 18 at Pittsburgh. 

2020

Was part of the Mets' 60-man player pool and had four stints with the team...Made his first Opening Day roster when his contract was selected on July 23...Was optioned to the Alternate Site on Aug. 14...Also with the Mets from Aug. 18-27, Aug. 30-31 and Sept. 9-13...Made his first appearance since Sept. 29, 2018, on July 25 vs. Atlanta...Hurled 0.2 scoreless innings...Collected his first hold on July 28 at Boston stranding one inherited runner...His last hold came on Aug. 22, 2018...Notched his second hold on Aug. 8 vs. MIA...Retired 16 of the first 19 batters he faced to begin the year...Held lefties to a .182 (2-11) batting average...Surrendered a grand slam to Gary Sanchez in the eighth inning on Aug. 30 at NYY (G2), suffering the loss.

2019

Underwent Tommy John surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery on March 12...Missed the entire season.

2018

Had his contract selected from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League on June 22...Optioned to Las Vegas on July 8... Recalled for a final time on July 20...Made his major league debut on June 23 vs. Los Angeles-NL with 1.0 scoreless inning...Earned his first major league win on September 3 at Los Angeles-NL...Fired 1.0 scoreless frame...Was unscored upon in 21 of 27 outings...Allowed six of his 11 earned runs in back-to-back outings (September 18 and September 23)...Posted a 1.33 ERA (three earned runs/20.1 innings) from July 31-September 17, including a career-best 8.0 scoreless innings from July 31-August 19...Had a 0.68 ERA (one earned run/13.1 innings) at home...Permitted 12 of 17 inherited runners to score...Lefties were 11-41 (.268) and right-handers went 23-69 (.333).
