Rangers recall RHP Dane Dunning from Triple-A Round Rock, option RHP Gerson Garabito to Triple-A Round Rock
Dunning has gone 4-7 with a 5.38 ERA in 24 games for Texas this season
Seattle, Wash. ¡ª The Texas Rangers announced the following roster moves prior to Friday night¡¯s series opener against the Seattle Mariners at Globe Life Field:
- Right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.
- Right-handed pitcher Gerson Garabito optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
Dunning, 29, has gone 4-7 with a 5.38 ERA (54 ER/90.1 IP), 85 strikeouts, and 39 walks over 24 games/14 starts for Texas this season. This will mark his second Major League stint in 2024, as he was also on the club¡¯s active roster from Opening Day-Aug. 30. The right-hander¡¯s most recent game action came in a start for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday vs. Sacramento, taking the loss as part of an 11-6 Express defeat (2.1 IP, 8 H, 7 R-ER, 2 BB, 1 SO, 56 pitches/34 strikes).
A five-year Major League veteran, Dunning sports a career 27-32 record and 4.36 ERA (275 ER/568.0 IP) over 122 appearances/101 starts with Chicago-AL (2020) and Texas (2021-24). The Orange Park, Fla. native and former 29th overall pick of the 2016 MLB Draft is a two-time recipient of the Rangers¡¯ Pitcher of the Year award (2023, 2021), one of seven pitchers in club history to receive the honor multiple times.
The 29-year-old Garabito is 0-2 with a 4.88 ERA (13 ER/24.0 IP) in 16 games/2 starts for the Rangers in 2024, his first Major League action. He last appeared for Texas on Thursday, finishing the Rangers¡¯ loss to Toronto (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R-ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 0 SO, 19 pitches/13 strikes).
Following today¡¯s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club¡¯s Major League roster, along with five players on the 60-day Injured List: Evan Carter, Carson Coleman, Jon Gray, Corey Seager, Cole Winn.
