HOUSTON, Texas ¨C PGA TOUR star, OWGR (Official World Golf Ranking) No. 2 Rory McIlroy is committed to play in the 2025 Texas ChildrenĄ¯s Houston Open, March 27-30 at Memorial Park Golf Course.
McIlroy commits to the field fresh off his 2025 The Players Championship title, where he beat J.J. Spaun in a playoff on Monday, March 17, finishing under-21. The win is the second of the 2025 season for McIlroy, who started off the year with a win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am. The Northern Ireland native has won four majors, as he won the PGA Championship in 2014 and 2012, The Open Championship in 2014 and the U.S. Open in 2011. He has also been a member of the European team in the Ryder Cup seven times, including 2023. He is also a two-time Olympian for Ireland. After joining the TOUR in 2010, McIlroy has 28 PGA TOUR wins, 11 runner-up finishes and 81 top five finishes.
Also joining the field in 2025 is Rickie Fowler. Fowler, a star and fan-favorite on the TOUR, most recently won the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. Overall, he has six PGA TOUR wins. In 2025, Fowler, who played college golf at Oklahoma State, finished tied for 21st at The American Express and tied for 18th at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches.
Jason Day, currently ranked No. 35, also joins the field in 2025. This season, he has two top 10 finishes, most recently finishing tied for eighth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard. He also finished tied for third at The American Express. Overall, Day has 13 career wins, including winning the 2015 PGA Championship.
With the addition of No. 2 McIlroy, now three top-10 OWGR golfers are set to compete, as McIlroy joins No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and No. 8 Wyndham Clark in the field.
McIlroy and Day join a strong group of major winners already committed to the field.
In addition to McIlroy, Day, Scheffler and Clark, Padraig Harrington, winner of the 2007 U.S. Open, 2008 U.S. Open and 2008 PGA Championship joins the field, alongside 2023 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Zach Johnson, winner of the 2007 Masters and 2015 The Open Championship. Matt Fitzpatrick, winner of the 2022 U.S. Open, Gary Woodland, winner of the 2019 U.S. Open**, Francesco Molinari**, winner of the 2018 The Open Championship and Danny Willett, winner of the 2016 Masters are also part of the field.
The field also includes 2024 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year, Nick Dunlap, who currently ranks No. 38 and No. 25 J.J. Spaun, who finished second to McIlroy at the 2025 Players Championship.
The past two tournament champions will also be a part of the field, with 2024 champion Stephan Jaeger and 2022 champion Tony Finau set to compete.
Additional players will be announced in the coming week as the Texas ChildrenĄ¯s Houston Open continues to draw a must-see competitive field.
