One of Kits Cubed's core initiatives involves donating their science kits to schools, providing students with the opportunity to participate in hands-on learning experiences and cultivate a genuine passion for scientific exploration. To date, the organization has donated over 40,000 kits, and Franco's contributions have been invaluable in this effort to make STEM education accessible to all students, regardless of their socioeconomic background. At Oakland Technical High School, Franco is deeply involved in the community, serving on various committees and contributing to curriculum development and school policies. Relentless curiosity is often what greets students as they step foot into Mr. Keil¡¯s classroom. Rather than attempting to fill in blanks off assumptions, his love language of intentional conversation fills the space. He doesn¡¯t just ask the questions of what, where, how. He asks the question of why. Beyond small talk and academics, he genuinely wants to deeply understand the essence of each student.

There¡¯s a number of different ways to use the word champion, in reference to sports or community as a singular noun. But for him - champion is a verb. Mr. Keil effortlessly champions his students every step of the way, pushing them to be the best version of themselves, while holding space for who they are now. It¡¯s not a simple task, he puts in the work¡­a LOT of hard work, but still remains so willing to make things happen in a multitude of ways. Not only does he teach a plethora of classes from English to sports media, but he continually pushes the capacity of what the school has to offer. Through his love for all things sports, he started up the school¡¯s first ever sports podcast ¡°Rams Corner,¡± in which he engrossed himself in the world of student athletes. Consisting of athlete interviews, in depth discussions, and relevant global sports issues, the podcast works in tandem with the school¡¯s sports season, always looking for different perspectives.

Being a volleyball coach himself, he¡¯s seen first hand student¡¯s potential outside of the classroom and the impact to be had when they¡¯re given a voice. He continues with this by being multiple clubs' advisor, reminding students they are more than capable of creating something - anything. Mr. Keil is generous with his time, intelligence, compassion, and patience and shares these things without expectations. He fully sees his students as more than a seat filler, he recognizes them as entire human beings who deserve care and love. Most students don¡¯t need an out loud ¡°I love you,¡± but they do need to know there¡¯s someone to anchor them with support. He¡¯s that pillar for students to see how far they¡¯ve come and how far they have yet to go. Mr. Keil simply moves people by being who he is. There¡¯s no prestige or a big title, there¡¯s simply ease. He radiates triumphant kindness of ¡°allow me to sit in this with you, let me help you, and let¡¯s keep going.¡± That softness in tone and care makes students¡¯ worlds brighter - better. Simply put, students want to grow up and become someone like Mr. Keil: a humble sports journalist, turned A¡¯s baseball fan, turned English teacher, who gives students hope when they can¡¯t see their way.

Brentwood Elementary

Mr. Zanotto is the absolute best P.E. teacher and an avid lifelong A's fan. He is the kind of PE teacher who loves his job and wants the children to get out and move! He teaches all of the students how to play games, and the skills needed to be active. It is especially touching to witness him teaching the SPED students - He accommodates those who need it without making them feel different. He has a huge amount of compassion and patience, and he provides equity for all of them to learn the same thing. Mr. Zanotto runs a Fun Run every year at our school to raise money. He puts so much energy into this day and shows how fun it is to be part of a school. He also can be counted on as an admin designee, helping out when the principal or vice principal needs to be away from the school site. He is the epitome of a team player and I can't think of a more deserving teacher for this award!

Holy Rosary School

As a mother, witnessing my daughter become a community champion at our local school is a source of immense pride and fulfillment. From the very beginning, I poured my heart, time, and resources into her education, knowing that it would be the foundation upon which she would build her future.

I've witnessed firsthand the sacrifices she made to pursue her education and career aspirations. Countless late nights spent studying, weekends devoted to lesson planning, and summers dedicated to professional development¡ªall fueled by her passion for making a difference in the lives of young learners. But it's not just the time and effort she's invested that make her a community champion; it's the genuine empathy and understanding she brings to her role as an educator. Having walked the same halls and faced similar challenges herself, she empathizes with the struggles of her students and works tirelessly to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Every day, she embodies the values of hard work, perseverance, and community that I've instilled in her since she was a child. The recent school-wide donation process, resulting in the collection of over 300 items for the shelter, is a testament to the impact of her efforts and the ripple effect of kindness she inspires.

For eight remarkable years, Ms. Sato has been a guiding light at MLK Elementary, upholding one of the longest teaching tenures in the school's history.
