2024 CARDINALS HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CLASS ANNOUNCED

Saturday, September 7th at 3pm

Together Credit Union Plaza at Ballpark Village

Matt Morris, Whitey Kurowski and Dave Duncan will be inducted into the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame this season. This will be the 11th induction class since the team dedicated its Hall of Fame with an inaugural class in 2014.

Morris was selected by the fans during an eight-week voting period. Kurowski was selected by the Red Ribbon Committee��a group comprised of 13 St. Louis baseball experts��while the Cardinals made Duncan an organizational selection. Read more about each enshrinee below.

Dave Duncan (Pitching Coach)

Years: 1996-2011

One of the most revered pitching coaches in baseball history, Dave Duncan worked in lockstep with Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa. His 16-year coaching tenure is tied for the fourth longest in Cardinals history. Under Duncan, St. Louis ranked in the top half in the National League in ERA during 12 seasons. He mentored four Cardinals 20-game winners, including 2005 Cy Young Award recipient Chris Carpenter. The Cardinals made the playoffs nine times with Duncan on staff, highlighted by winning the 2006 and 2011 World Series. They also were NL champions in 2004 and captured eight Central Division crowns.

Whitey Kurowski (3B)

Years: 1941-1949

Whitey Kurowski was the third baseman during the greatest regime of Cardinals history �C playing for the 1942, 1944 and 1946 World Series champions, along with the 1943 National League pennant winners. He clinched the 1942 World Series with a ninth-inning home run in the decisive Game 5 against the New York Yankees. Kurowski was selected to the NL All-Star team five straight seasons from 1943-47. He played 868 games at the hot corner, the fourth most in franchise annals. Kurowski overcame a childhood bone infection that resulted in his right arm being several inches shorter than his left.

Matt Morris (RHP)

Years: 1997-2005

101-62, 3.61 ERA, 18 CG, 8 SHO, 986 SO, 1.27 WHIP, 1,377.1 IP (206 Games Started)

Right-hander Matt Morris achieved a .620 winning percentage to rank fourth in Cardinals history among pitchers with at least 1,000 innings. His 101 wins are tied for 11th, and he is sixth with 986 strikeouts. The two-time All-Star won 11 or more games each of his six full seasons. In 2001, Morris won 22 games (tied for most in the majors) and was named National League Comeback Player of the Year �C two years after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He pitched for five NL Central Division championship teams, including the 2004 pennant winners, and made 11 postseason starts (third most in franchise annals).

Eligibility

To be eligible, nominees must have played for the Cardinals for at least three season and be retired as a player from Major League Baseball for at least three years.

The eligible pool of players is divided into two categories, including "modern players" and "veteran players." If a player retired more than 40 years prior to the induction year, he is classified as a veteran player.

Modern players are selected for induction by a six-week fan vote. Veteran players are selected for induction by the Red Ribbon Panel. From time to time, the Cardinals organization may opt to induct an individual who was an important figure in Cardinals history such as a coach, broadcaster or member of the front office.
