Miami Marlins name Ryan Plunkett vice president of baseball solutions
MIAMI ¨C The Miami Marlins today announced the hire of Ryan Plunkett as Vice President of Baseball Solutions.
Plunkett joins the Marlins after having spent the past five seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies in their Research & Development department, including roles as Assistant Director, Foundational Research (2023-24), Lead Quantitative Analyst (2022), and Quantitative Analyst (2020-21). With the Phillies, Plunkett was tasked with ensuring that all departments in Baseball Operations maximally leveraged Research & Development¡¯s foundational research, prioritized high impact projects that impacted the organization¡¯s decision-making processes, and led the development of educational material regarding research for all Baseball Operations departments.
A native of Abington, Mass., who graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor¡¯s degree in statistics and computer science, Plunkett will oversee all aspects of the newly created Baseball Solutions team within the Marlins Research & Development department. Among various responsibilities, the Baseball Solutions group will be tasked with developing tools and applications for player evaluation and development to allow for a seamless connection between Research & Development and the entire Marlins organization.
