Our city, renowned for its unique lifestyle, was cultivated many years ago, built upon a foundation of passion and pride. More than a half century ago, a collection of talent from far and wide took the field in Cuba to prove they belong among giants. Now, amid Little Havana, the radiant red bleeds the storied past of the Cuban Sugar Kings in this new breed of baseball, blending old school character with the bold swagger of the hometown Miami Marlins, combining both substance and style.

The Marlins City Connect uniform is designed with the personality and confidence of our city in mind.?The storied?past?of the upstart Cuban baseball team and the synergy around the bold colors in their uniforms are brought to life once again to celebrate the bond with our community and the roots of the passion for the game of b¨¦isbol.

Built On History

Un Paso mas y llegamos! ¨C One more step and we arrive!

The Cuban Sugar Kings (1954-60) took the field each day with the dream of becoming the first MLB franchise outside the United States. Owned and guided by the vision of Bobby Maduro, the Father of Latin Baseball, they were a ground-breaking team that inspired their country and beyond. The Sugar Kings were one of the first to field a multi-national team with players from all over Latin America along with African American ballplayers. They played with a passion that inspired the love and growth for baseball throughout the world.

The team won the AAA championship in 1959 with future MLB players Tony Gonz¨¢lez, Leo Ca?rdenas and Cookie Rojas. The next year, they moved to New Jersey and in 1962 moved to Jacksonville, a franchise that is now the Marlins Triple-A affiliate, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

With the Miami Marlins City Connect uniform, the Sugar Kings have finally arrived in the Major Leagues.

The Details:

The Miami Script: A nod to the handmade letterforms of the original jerseys; Wide pinstripes with raglan-style sleeves for a bold look

Sleeve Patches: An original Sugar Kings mark on the right arm to remember the legacy we carry on, with the Marlins logo on the left for the next generation.

Caps: Miami Blue with Legacy Red bill; the crest features the traditional Sugar Kings logo infused with the current Miami Marlins, and the single fish logo on the side

Located on the West Plaza of loanDepot park, ¡°Folklore¡± is in celebration of Legacy. The tower honors the Cuban Sugar Kings and the connectivity to Miami.

Each container features elements inspired by Miami¡¯s City Connect uniform that were painted by Puerto Rican artist Carlitos Skills.

Fans can now interact with Folklore by experiencing the set used for the 2021 Miami Marlins player photo and video shoot. Take selfies with your friends and family and be sure to tag @marlins, @loanDepotpark and use #MakeItMiami.
