Jacob Seth Lugo graduated from Parkway (LA) High School...lettered in baseball, soccer, football (punter) and track...he was a state finalist in the high-jump (6 feet, 2 inches)....Prior to the start of the 2020 season, had his first child, James, with his wife, Amanda....Went to Centenary (LA) College when it was a Division I school...earned Second Team All-Summit League Honors in 2010....Started the WBC championship game for Puerto Rico vs. the US in 2017 and won a silver medal...his paternal grandfather, Jos¨¦ ¡°Ben¡± Lugo, was born in Puerto Rico....A year after the WBC, Lugo reconnected with family in Puerto Rico...he and his wife Amanda planned to marry on the island in November, but Hurricane Mar¨ªa forced them to change locations....His dad, Ben, was an avid baseball card collector, and the favorite card that he ever had was a Roberto Clemente rookie card (has since been destroyed)....Was the only player from the 34th round in the 2011 draft to play in the Major Leagues...there were six players who were drafted lower than Lugo in the 2011 draft that have gone on to play in the big leagues....While working out in the winter of 2011, Lugo felt a back spasm while performing an ab-strengthening exercise. After several MRIs, he was diagnosed with Spondylolisthesis ¡ª which occurs after a displacement of a vertebra in the spine. Underwent a lumbar fusion and a surgery that lasted nearly 10 hours and missed the whole 2012 season....Is an avid frisbee golf player and a fan of the New Orleans Saints.

Lugo made a career-high 26 starts for the Padres in 2023 despite missing a month while on the Injured List with a strained calf muscle...He worked exclusively as a starter for the first time in 2023 and set career highs in several categories with San Diego, including wins (8), games started (26), innings pitched (146.1) and strikeouts (140), while walking just 36 batters and posting a 3.57 ERA...Ranked ninth among National League starting pitchers with a 2.21 BB/9 rate and 6.0 BB% (min. 25 starts), trailing leader Logan Webb (1.3 BB/9, 3.6 BB%) in each category...Among pitchers with at least 25 starts in 2023, his 65.4% quality start rate ranked fifth highest in Major League Baseball, trailing only American League Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole (72.7%), San Francisco¡¯s Webb (72.7%), Cubs southpaw Justin Steele (66.7%) and Philadelphia¡¯s Zack Wheeler (65.6%)...
