INJURY UPDATES
3B Rafael Devers
Injury: Shoulder rehab
Expected return: March 5
Status: Devers spent the first two weeks of camp rehabbing his shoulders, which bothered him last season. He is ramping up and Red Sox manager Alex Cora believes the star slugger will play his first Grapefruit League game on March 5. (last updated: Feb. 25)
RF Wilyer Abreu
Injury: GI illness
Expected return: Unclear
Status: Abreu hasn't been cleared to do baseball activities, but he can work out at the Fenway South complex. His most recent lab tests were taken Monday, and the Red Sox are giving it a couple of days to assess the results. (last updated: Feb. 25)
RHP Brayan Bello
Injury: Right shoulder inflammation
Expected return: Targeting Opening Day
Status: Bello got good results on a strength test he took Feb. 23 and started throwing out to 120 feet on Feb. 24. The plan is for him to throw his first bullpen session of Spring Training on Feb. 28. (last updated: Feb. 24)
RHP Kutter Crawford
Injury: Right patellar soreness
Expected return: After Opening Day
Status: Crawford recently had an MRI on his ailing right kneecap, and it didn't reveal anything more than what he was dealing with throughout last season. The injury returned in the offseason, and manager Alex Cora said "it looks like" Crawford won't be ready for Opening Day. (last updated: Feb. 23)
LHP Patrick Sandoval
Injury: Recovering from left UCL injury
Expected return: Midseason
Status: Sandoval underwent an internal bracing procedure last season while with the Angels and is confident he will return for a substantial amount of the 2025 season, giving the Red Sox more starting depth. (last updated: Feb. 23)
LHP Zach Penrod
Injury: Left elbow inflammation
Expected return: May or later
Status: Cora said that Penrod is going to be out "for a while," but the team is hoping rest and rehab will fix the situation instead of surgery. (last updated: Feb. 22)
