The Yankees have again bestowed the annual Hispanic Heritage Month Community Achievement Awards to organizations making a profound difference throughout our surrounding communities. Recipients were highlighted on Yankees social media platforms and recognized in a pregame on-field ceremony prior to September 24th¡¯s game vs. Baltimore. This year¡¯s honorees were:
The National Puerto Rican Day Parade, Grand Slam Foundation and New York League of Puerto Rican Women. In addition, all honored guests enjoyed viewing the game in the Judge¡¯s Chambers.
- The National Puerto Rican Day Parade (nprdpinc.org) is the largest demonstration of cultural pride in the nation. Now in its 67th year, the parade takes place from 44th Street to 79th Street along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, in honor of the 3.5 million inhabitants of Puerto Rico and over 5 million people residing in the United States. Each year, NPRDP hosts a variety of cultural, educational, and social, cultural and social events throughout New York City leading up to the day of the Parade. These include the 152nd Street Cultural Festival, Parade Mass at Saint Patrick¡¯s Cathedral, and the Scholarship Gala.
- Grand Slam Foundation (grandslamfoundation.com) is dedicated to empowering children and youth by offering them a robust selection of organized sports, alongside a suite of supportive programs and services. Our mission is to nurture their aspirations, both in the arena of sport and in life. Born from the understanding of sports' profound impact on young lives, Grand Slam champions the cause of enhancing physical activity and fostering the development of essential physical, social, and emotional skills. Our commitment lies in ensuring these young individuals not only excel on the field but also flourish in their personal growth and well-being.
- New York League of Puerto Rican Women (nylprw.org) is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization whose mission is the advancement of Puerto Rican/Hispanic women through higher education. The proceeds of all our events go toward the funding of our Scholarship Program, a most worthy cause of which we should all be extremely proud. The League¡¯s Scholarships are granted to Puerto Rican and Hispanic undergraduate women selected for their academic excellence and service to the community.
