WASHINGTON -- When the 2025 season comes to a close, so too will Bob Carpenter¡¯s 20th -- and final -- year as the lead voice behind Nationals baseball.
The play-by-play television broadcaster announced during the pregame show ahead of Washington¡¯s scheduled exhibition game against Baltimore on Monday that he will step down at the end of the season, his 42nd as an MLB announcer.
Carpenter¡¯s presence has been a fixture for Nationals fans since he was hired by the club in 2006. Previously he had called games for the Cardinals and ESPN, lending his voice to Major League Baseball games since 1984.
While with the Nationals, Carpenter won his third Emmy (2008, he had previously won two in St. Louis) and in 2014 was named co-D.C. Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Now he¡¯s headed into retirement with a plan to spend more time with his family.
Carpenter will finish out the 2025 season in the same slightly reduced role he has had the past few years, with Dan Kolko stepping in alongside analyst Kevin Frandsen.
But Carpenter¡¯s voice will live on in the collective memory of Nationals fans in his calls of multiple clinchers, his patented ¡°See ¡ you ¡ later!¡± home run calls and three Nats no-hitters: Jordan Zimmermann vs. the Marlins to close the 2014 season and Max Scherzer¡¯s pair of no-no¡¯s in 2015 (vs. the Pirates on June 20 and in New York vs. the Mets on Oct. 3).
