Nationals agree to terms with 6 Draft picks
The Nationals' new wave of talent has joined the organization. The team announced on Tuesday it has agreed to terms with all six of its picks from the 2020 MLB Draft.
Righty Cade Cavalli (No. 22 overall pick), shortstop Sammy Infante (No. 71), catcher Brady Lindsly (No. 123) and southpaw Mitchell Parker (No. 153) had been reported to have agreed last week. Right-handers Cole Henry (No. 55) and Holden Powell (No. 94) rounded out the group from the condensed five-round Draft, held June 10-11.
The Nationals had a pool of $6,647,700 to spend across their picks. Official terms were not announced by the team, but here's what we know:
? MLB Pipeline's Jim Callis reported first-rounder Cavalli¡¯s deal is for the full assigned slot value for the No. 22 pick, $3.03 million.
? The assigned value for Henry¡¯s pick at No. 55 is $1.31 million.
? Infante agreed to a bonus of $1 million, per Callis. The slot value for the 71st selection -- a compensation pick for Anthony Rendon¡¯s departure -- is $884,200.
? Powell signed for $500,000, per MLB Pipeline's Jonathan Mayo. The assigned value for the closer's No. 94 pick was $618,200.
? Lindsly signed for $20,000 per Callis, below the slot value for the 123rd pick of $464,500.
? Parker signed for $100,000 per Callis, also below the slot value for the 153rd pick of $346,800.
"What a tremendous group,¡± Kris Kline, Nationals assistant general manager and vice president of scouting operations, said following the completion of the Draft. ¡°I¡¯m so excited and fired up to have all these kids in the system. This is a jackpot for me. We did great. The guys did a tremendous job."
The Nationals have also looked to the non-drafted free agent pool, from which prospects can be signed at a bonus of up to $20,000 per player. This year¡¯s Draft was shortened because of the coronavirus pandemic, and general manager Mike Rizzo said the team would be ¡°very aggressive¡± when pursuing talent on its radar. Last week, the Nationals agreed to terms with first baseman/outfielder Jackson Coutts, infielder Gio Diaz and catcher Raymond Torres Jr.
