Padres Acquire Jason Adam from Tampa Bay Rays
SAN DIEGO ¨C The San Diego Padres have acquired right-handed reliever Jason Adam from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for right-hander Dylan Lesko, outfielder Homer Bush Jr. and catcher J.D. Gonzalez, President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller announced today. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Padres designated right-hander Glen Otto for assignment.
Adam, 32, has collected a 4-2 record with a 2.49 ERA (13 ER, 47.0 IP), four saves, 19 holds and 50 strikeouts (9.57 SO/9.0 IP) in 47 appearances this season. His 0.89 WHIP ranks 9th among all AL relievers, while his .164 opponents average is tied for 10th best. He also ranks 7th in the AL in holds this season, T-8th in appearances, 9th in hits per 9.0 IP (4.98) and 12th in ERA.
In 249 career games, Adam has gone 16-11 with a 3.07 ERA (83 ER, 243.0 IP), 24 saves and 289 strikeouts between the Royals (2018), Toronto Blue Jays (2019), Chicago Cubs (2020-21) and Rays (2022-24). He has appeared in one postseason game in his career during the 2022 Wild Card Series with the Rays (2.0 IP, 1 H). Adam was originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 5th round of the June 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Blue Valley Northwest High School (KS).
