VICE PRESIDENT, BASEBALL OPERATIONS
Carlos Rodriguez enters his 14th season with the Rays and fourth as vice president. He transitioned to vice president, assistant general manager in November 2022 following one season as vice president, baseball operations (2022) and two seasons as vice president, player development and international scouting (2020-21). In his role, Rodriguez assists both Erik Neander and Peter Bendix in all areas of baseball operations with an increased focus on major league operations, strategic initiatives and international operations. Rodriguez previously oversaw the player development and performance science departments and helped lead a transition to a more comprehensive development environment, including the expansion of sport nutrition initiatives and individualized player performance and wellness programs. These initiatives have contributed to the farm system leading the minors in winning pct. in each of the 2022 and 2021 seasons. In 2022, the organization¡¯s domestic affiliates went a combined 361-237 (.604) with a +634 run differential, both of which were best in the minors. From 2015-19, Rodriguez served as director of international scouting, following three years as director of Latin American scouting (2012-14). As director, he grew the Rays scouting presence around the globe and refined the organization¡¯s international evaluation and procurement processes. During this stretch, Rodriguez played a key role in scouting and signing Jos¨¦ Alvarado, Jonathan Aranda, Vidal Bruj¨¢n, Genesis Cabrera, Diego Castillo, Yonny Chirinos, Wander Franco, Ronaldo Hern¨¢ndez, Ren¨¦ Pinto, Cristopher S¨¢nchez and Jes¨²s S¨¢nchez, among others. Rodriguez joined the Rays in the fall of 2010 as a professional and international scout after four seasons with the Blue Jays as an area scout. In 2009, he signed Yan Gomes from Barry University, the first Brazilian-born player to reach the major leagues. A native of Puerto Rico, Rodriguez attended the University of North Florida where he played and served as an assistant coach. He graduated in 2004 after double majoring in international business and economics. He and his wife, Omayra, reside in Tampa with their daughter, Eva Marie.
