May 2018 - The Red Sox are recognized by the U.S. EPA as a Green Power Partner for switching to clean, renewable electricity.

Offsetting Fenway Park's Electricity Consumption

April 25, 2018 - As part of the Red Sox's ongoing efforts to make Fenway Park more environmentally friendly, the club announced that 100 percent of the ballpark's electricity consumption for the next two years will be offset with Green-e certified renewable energy certificates (RECs) through the club's electricity supply partner, Engie. The arrangement with Engie was finalized in late 2017 making the Red Sox one of four Major League teams to offset their ballpark energy consumption by purchasing RECs.

Waste Sorts Increase Landfill Diversion Rate

September 2017 - The Red Sox, with partners Aramark and Waste Management, conduct 8 post event waste sorts during the 2017 season, with one sort eclipsing a 75% diversion rate. The collaborators sorted over 26,241 pounds of trash and recovered 14,474 pounds for recycling and organics to yield a 55 percent overall landfill waste diversion rate.

April 21, 2016 - The Red Sox organization is a leader in sustainability initiatives and was named the Bay State's 2016 Recycler of the Year by MassRecycle, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing recycling and waste reduction in Massachusetts.

April 10, 2008 - The Boston Red Sox are carrying out a series of initiatives during the 2008 season that reflect the team's commitment to exploring the use of environmentally sustainable habits and technologies.

2008 EPA Environmental Merit Award

Every game of the 2008 season, the Poland Spring Green Team, a group of 30-50 local college student volunteers spread throughout the seating bowl during the game to gather plastic recyclable materials. In 2008 the Green Team collected over 25 tons of plastics. In addition to the Green Team, fans are encouraged to utilize the Poland Spring/Waste Management recycle bins that have been placed throughout the ballpark. The 100 bins can hold up to 55 gallons.
