Each September, join the D-backs as we partner with Phoenix Children's Hospital to help our littlest fans who need us the most as we raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer programs during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Hunger hits Arizona every day at staggering rates. 1 in 7 seniors, 1 in 5 Arizonans, and 1 in 3 children are hungry in Arizona. The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation teamed up with Arizona Milk Producers in an effort to feed our hungry neighbors through an annual food and donation drive at Chase Field.
Break a Bat, Plant a Tree is a partnership between the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and Budweiser. An important sustainability initiative for "D-backs Give Back", Break a Bat, Plant a Tree will provide desert-adapted shade trees in area parks.
Every December, the Arizona Diamondbacks and University of Phoenix team up and turn Chase Field into a winter wonderland for the annual Winter Classic event. Six hundred students from various local Title I schools and non-profit agencies are invited to participate in this holiday event filled with gifts and engaging activities. Each participating student receives a brand new pair of athletic shoes, two books, a backpack and a D-backs sweatshirt.
To help lift the spirits of the kids in our community, Arizona Diamondbacks players regularly visit young patients at Phoenix Children's Hospital during the season. In addition to visiting with patients, the players sign autographs, take photos and distribute D-backs gift bags for young fans going through tough times.
Each year, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Gallardo team up to host the annual D-backs District 5 Jam. The D-backs welcome over 1,000 students from more than 20 local schools to Chase Field for a special day that includes a parade around the warning track and a complimentary game ticket, t-shirt and lunch at the ballpark.
The D-backs team up with the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society each year to host 100 kids at Chase Field and teach them valuable lessons regarding the importance of exercise and the dangers of steroids. The children learn exercises from the D-backs training staff and participate in a question and answer session with a D-backs player about the importance of living healthy.
MLB Initiatives
The Arizona Diamondbacks are proud to partner with Major League Baseball to support and raise awareness for a variety of community outreach programs and initiatives.
ALS Awareness Day
In partnership with Major League Baseball, each year the D-backs host ALS Awareness Day at Chase Field. Representatives from the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the ALS Association Arizona Chapter and ALS TDI are invited to Chase Field to help raise awareness in the fight against ALS. The day includes a special pre-game celebration on the field honoring those who are fighting.
Jackie Robinson Day
Few people have meant more to the game of baseball - and America for that matter - than Jackie Robinson. By breaking baseball's color barrier with his historic debut on April 15, 1947, the Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Famer helped pave the way for equal rights for every United States citizen. Our goal is to continue to recognize this momentous event that changed the social fabric of America. Every year on April 15th, our game honors Jackie's legacy by celebrating his inspiring life, values and accomplishments.
Roberto Clemente Day
Not long after recording his 3,000th career hit, Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente died in a plane crash while delivering aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. Clemente exemplified baseball's unique responsibility as a social institution and its ability to improve people's lives. MLB and the D-backs celebrate Clemente's dedication to public service while recognizing players' efforts to give back to their communities. Roberto Clemente Day was established in 2002 to increase awareness of the Roberto Clemente Award presented by Chevy, and particularly to the local recipients and their efforts in the community.
Military Appreciation Day & Welcome Back Veterans
As America's national pastime, Major League Baseball has the social responsibility to support those who have truly made sacrifices on our behalf. Welcome Back Veterans was created to honor America's brave servicemen and women and help them make a successful transition back to civilian life.
Mother's Day: Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer
Major League Baseball and the D-backs are proud to partner with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to "Go to Bat Against Breast Cancer". Our goal is to increase breast cancer awareness and early detection while raising funds to support breast cancer research. In seeking a cure for this all-too-pervasive disease, MLB and the D-backs stand with the countless women and their families affected each year.
Father's Day
On Father's Day, Major League Baseball and the D-backs join with the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) to heighten awareness of prostate cancer and support its eventual eradication. The Home Run Challenge encourages fans to pledge money for each home run hit during the week of Father's Day to benefit PCF. Our effort seeks to communicate the importance of early detection and generate funding for ongoing research.
Childhood Cancer Awareness
Major League Baseball and the Arizona Diamondbacks support efforts to raise childhood cancer awareness. In the United States, childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children aged 15 and under. Together, we are committed to eradicating the diseases that these brave young people face every day.
Play Ball Weekend
Major League Baseball's Play Ball initiative is about inspiring everyone to play ball! Play Ball Weekend is a weekend-long series of events celebrating youth baseball and softball, while encouraging participation in all forms of the game.
