Bring the playground home! King Swings donates Phillies-themed playset to Strawberry Mansion Learning Center
The Phillies and King Swings, an Amish, family-owned company based in Chester County who designs swing sets for Phillies fans as well as celebrities, made a special visit to North Philadelphia yesterday, where they gifted a Phillies-themed playset to Strawberry Mansion Learning Center, which provides free after-school and summer programming for children grades 5-12.
The event was attended by the Strawberry Mansion community, who cheered as the Center¡¯s children had the honor of being the first to try out the new playset. Participants included broadcaster Tom McCarthy, as well as King Swings¡¯ CEO Elmer King, who praised the Center¡¯s founder and director, Kevin Upshur, and his mission to help the neighborhood.
Joining the festivities and making a surprise appearance were the Phillie Phanatic, Phillies Ballgirls, and 1993 National League champion and 2008 World Series champion coach Milt Thompson, who joined Upshur and King for a ribbon cutting to officially open the playset to the community.
