April 14, 1960
After an Opening Day loss, manager Eddie Sawyer resigns suddenly, saying ¡°I am 49 years old and want to live to be 50,¡± and is replaced by 34-year-old Gene Mauch.

Roy Halladay tosses 8.0 innings of one-run ball against Miami to earn his 200th major league victory. He becomes the 112th pitcher in history to win 200 games and the first to do so in a Phillies uniform since Steve Carlton in 1978.

Right-hander Vince Velasquez blanks San Diego, 3-0, and becomes just the fourth major league pitcher since 1893 to throw a shutout with 16 or more strikeouts, zero walks and three hits or fewer allowed.

Left-handed pitcher Steve Carlton makes his first start as a Phillie, tossing 8.0 innings in a 4-2 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Mike Schmidt plays in his 1,795th game to break the club record held by Richie Ashburn.

A four-run eighth inning lifts the Phillies to a 6-4 win over the Reds, their first victory in Citizens Bank Park. Rheal Cormier gets the win, Billy Wagner records the save, and David Bell and Mike Lieberthal both homer.

Ground is broken at 20th Street and Lehigh Avenue for the construction of Shibe Park.

Second baseman Connie Ryan sets a club record for most hits in a game after going 6-for-6 (four singles, two doubles) in a 14-12 loss at Pittsburgh.
April 16, 1959
Dave Philley gets a major league-record ninth straight hit as a pinch-hitter (eight in 1958) as the Phillies drop a 7-3 decision in Milwaukee.
April 16, 2006
Behind 7.2 scoreless innings from Brett Myers, the Phillies shut out the Colorado Rockies, 1-0, at Coors Field, with the only run coming on a Ryan Howard solo homer in the seventh inning. It marks the first ever game in Coors Field history won with a single run by the visiting team.
April 17, 1923
The Phillies set a club record for the longest Opening Day game, a 5-5 tie at Brooklyn that was halted after 14 innings due to darkness.
April 17, 1969
In their first game against the expansion Montreal Expos, led by former Phillies skipper Gene Mauch, the Phils are no-hit by Bill Stoneman, 7-0, at Connie Mack Stadium.
April 17, 1976
In a wild 18-16 win over the Cubs, Mike Schmidt hits four consecutive home runs, all of which come in the fifth inning on. His 10th-inning blast is the game-winner and helps the Phillies complete an 11-run comeback, tying an NL record.
April 18, 1950
Legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully calls his first game as the Phillies host Brooklyn at Shibe Park on Opening Day wearing red pinstripes for the first time. Robin Roberts defeats Don Newcombe in the 9-1 win.

Left fielder Greg Luzinski becomes the first visiting player to hit a home run into the upper deck at Pittsburgh¡¯s Three Rivers Stadium in a 3-2 Phillies win.
April 18, 1987
Third baseman Mike Schmidt homers on a 3-0 pitch from Don Robinson in Pittsburgh to become the 14th player in baseball history to reach 500 home runs. The dramatic, three-run home run in the ninth beats the Pirates, 8-6.

Second baseman Bryson Stott passes Willie ¡°Puddin¡¯ Head¡± Jones to set a modern-day franchise record by hitting safely in a career-high 17 straight games to being the season.
April 19, 1890
The Phillies secure their first ever Opening Day shutout, blanking the New York Giants, 4-0, behind Kid Gleason.
April 19, 1900
The Phillies win in Boston, 19-17, in 10 innings, the highest-scoring opener in National League history. Boston had scored nine in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.
April 19, 1937
The Phillies sweep a doubleheader at Braves Field, beating Boston, 2-1 (11 innings) and 1-0. It is the only time the Phillies have started the season with a twin bill.
April 20, 1920
Phillies manager Gavvy Cravath, angry with an umpire¡¯s call in a 0-0 game against the New York Giants, inserts himself as a pinch-hitter and promptly slugs a three-run home run that will win the game. It is the 119th and final home run of his career, a major league record until it is broken by Babe Ruth the following season.

Richie Ashburn makes his major league debut, playing left field and going 1-for-5 in a 3-1 win over Boston at Shibe Park.
April 20, 1949
Third baseman Willie ¡°Puddin¡¯ Head¡± Jones goes 4-for-4 with four doubles against the Boston Braves at Braves Field in Boston, a major league record that still stands today (tied with several other players).
April 20, 1989
Third baseman Mike Schmidt¡¯s first-inning double in Pittsburgh off Mike Dunne breaks Richie Ashburn¡¯s club record for career hits (2,217).
