A Phillies tradition of more than 19 years continues! On Monday, Dec. 16, more than 200 deserving community members and staff at Bethesda Project's Our Brothers' Place - one of the largest homeless shelters in Philadelphia - were served a holiday dinner by the Phillies family. All the holiday meals were donated and prepared by Phillies front office volunteers, with 25 turkeys provided by GIANT Food Stores. Among those serving the dinners include Phillies' Managing Partner John Middleton, President Andy MacPhail, General Manager Matt Klentak, Manager Joe Girardi, broadcasters Ben Davis, Gregg Murphy and Larry Andersen, alumni Mickey Morandini and Dickie Noles and Director of Public Affairs Scott Palmer. Local police officers and the Phillies teamed up to make sure this holiday is one to remember for children attending the Ford PAL Center in South Philadelphia. Hundreds of toys, many of which were donated by fans during the Phillies Ballgirls Christmas in July Toy Drive, were distributed to the kids by Santa Claus and the Phillie Phanatic, as well as Phillies Alumnus Mickey Morandini, Director of Public Affairs Scott Palmer and the Phillies Ballgirls. Phillies Charities, Inc. also presented a $15,000 donation to support the Ford Pal Center's efforts in helping local children in need. The event was part of the team's annual Season of Giving. On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the spirit of giving was on full display during a "Phillies Holiday Gift Wrapping Party" at St. Anastasia School in Newtown, Pa.1993 National League Champion Mickey Morandini, Phillies Director of Public Affairs Scott Palmer and volunteers from the Phillies front office made a special visit to St. Anastasia School, where they joined students and teachers in wrapping hundreds of gifts to be given to families battling cancer. After the gifts were wrapped, the Phillies personally delivered the presents to the families. All the gifts were donated by the St. Anastasia community to support the Bringing Hope Home Adopt-A-Family program. The holidays are officially here! Rhys Hoskins joined Phanta Claus and special guests at the Phillies Holiday Sale & Tree Lighting on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019. On Tuesday, Dec. 3, local heroes took center stage and were honored for their selfless work in the community at the Phillies Charities, Inc. #GivingTuesday Holiday Party. The event saluted 35 local charities and organizations transforming their communities, all of whom were selected to receive a 2019 Phillies Charities, Inc. grant. More than $525,000 was awarded to these organizations so their charitable efforts can continue. Holiday shopping and Phillies fun all in one! Fans arrived bright and early for Phillies Red Friday, where they took holiday photos on the field, enjoyed donuts and hot chocolate in the dugouts, toured the clubhouse decorated for the holidays, and even met the Phillie Phanatic. Manager Joe Girardi, General Manager Matt Klentak and pitcher Zach Eflin were among the many surprises at a very special Phillies Clubhouse Sleepover for pediatric patients on Friday, Nov. 15 at Citizens Bank Park. To ensure a comfy stay, the entire clubhouse was decked out with Phillies beds, kindly donated by Bob's Discount Furniture. The Major League slumber party included lots of fun experiences for the kids, including taking part in a surprise press conference with Girardi and Klentak, being led onto the field with the Phillie Phanatic, taking swings in the batting tunnel with Eflin, and so much more. Sixty Phillies' player-tagged trees - donated through the "Phillies Home Runs for Trees" program supported by Philadelphia Gas Works - were planted in University City by volunteers from U.C. Green, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Philadelphia Gas Works. The Phillie Phanatic and Phillies Ballgirls helped distribute Phillies-tagged trees and equipment at the U.C. On Saturday, Nov. 9, it was Love Your Park Fall Service Day, and members of the Phillies family gathered to help rake leaves at David P. Montgomery Field in Roxborough, Pa. The fall cleanup was held to get the area ready for the winter, and took place one year after the field was officially renamed after the Phillies beloved Chairman David Montgomery. New Phillies' manager Joe Girardi had some fun at the Rocky Balboa Run this past Saturday, Nov. 9, where he ran the infamous Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Girardi was the Grand Marshal of this year's annual event, which raises money for the Special Olympics. Also taking part was the Phanatic, who joined Girardi in meeting fans. On Friday, Sep. 13, the Phillies joined the Kisses for Kyle Foundation to host the sold-out #GoGold Children's Fashion Show. This very special Phillies runway event featured youngsters battling pediatric cancer, along with some of their siblings, who modeled sportswear and strutted their stuff in front of their family members and friends.
