PHILADELPHIA -- The last time everybody saw Joe Girardi and Jean Segura, they were so upset with each other that they needed someone to step between them.
But these two kids just can¡¯t stay angry at each other forever.
¡°Oh, I told him I love him,¡± Girardi said Tuesday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park.
¡°We love each other,¡± Segura said. ¡°Yeah, absolutely. Everything is in the past. We¡¯re all good. We cleared it up.¡±
Segura misplayed a ball in the first inning of Sunday¡¯s loss to the Blue Jays at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Fla. Girardi has been unhappy with the team¡¯s poor defensive play for some time, so afterward he said something to Segura in the dugout. Segura did not appreciate the criticism and he said a few things back. Phillies third-base coach Dusty Wathan and others stepped in front of Segura as Girardi walked away.
Afterward, Girardi testily declined to discuss the matter.
¡°Well, everything that happens here, I always make sure that we take care of,¡± Girardi said Tuesday. ¡°As I said, there¡¯s a time and a place, and I¡¯m not always going to tell you when the time and the place is. But we take care of things. That¡¯s what we do.
¡°I mean, there¡¯s things that I¡¯m not going to choose to share with you guys and I understand that you¡¯re going to ask a number of times. But it¡¯s like, every little spat that you have with someone that you love at home, you don¡¯t go and tell everyone around you, you know?¡±
Segura said he and Girardi talked in person and on the phone Monday.
¡°It¡¯s all good,¡± Segura said. ¡°I don¡¯t want to talk about it anymore. I¡¯ll leave it in the past. Like Joe said, whatever is said on the bench stays on the bench and whatever is said in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse. At the end of the day, we¡¯re all here and we¡¯re loving each other, and we¡¯ll continue to play the game.¡±
Didi lands on IL
The Phillies placed shortstop Didi Gregorius on the 10-day injured list because of inflammation in his right elbow. It is the second time Gregorius has missed time this season because of it. Gregorius¡¯ IL stint is backdated to Friday, making him eligible to be activated as early as Sunday, but it is far from certain he will return by then.
¡°The problem is we¡¯ve just been having a hard time getting all of the swelling out of his right elbow,¡± Girardi said. ¡°We¡¯re hoping that it will continue to improve as we go along. But right now, we¡¯ll just continue to treat.¡±
The Phillies also placed Scott Kingery on the seven-day concussion IL. He collided with the right-field wall on Sunday. They activated right-hander Archie Bradley and infielder Ronald Torreyes to fill out the active roster. It gives the Phils 14 pitchers and just four players on the bench: J.T. Realmuto, Brad Miller, Rafael Marchan and Torreyes.
Realmuto did not start Tuesday because of a bone bruise near his left wrist. It is unclear when he will return to the lineup.
Romero to have Tommy John surgery
The Phillies revealed that left-hander JoJo Romero will have Tommy John surgery next week in Los Angeles. Dr. Neal ElAttrache will perform the surgery.
It takes at least a year to recover from Tommy John surgery, meaning the Phillies will be without Romero until at least next summer.
¡°Obviously he¡¯s frustrated that he¡¯s going through it," Girardi said, "but for what he¡¯s going through, he¡¯s in a pretty good place in his mind and understands that he¡¯s going to be back and he¡¯s going to be healthy and he¡¯s going to be effective."
Romero¡¯s surgery leaves the Phillies with left-handers Jos¨¦ Alvarado, Ranger Su¨¢rez and Matt Moore in the bullpen. They had Tony Watson in Spring Training as a non-roster invitee, but they released him, which did not sit well with some players at the time.
Watson is 2-1 with a 2.03 ERA in 13 1/3 innings with the Angels.

? Girardi said right-hander Chase Anderson will start as scheduled on Saturday. Anderson is 2-4 with a 6.96 ERA in eight starts. Phillies prospect Spencer Howard has a 1.00 ERA in nine innings over three starts with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
? The Phillies signed infielder Ruben Tejada and assigned him to the IronPigs.
? Outfielder Matt Joyce (strained right calf) began a rehab assignment Tuesday night with Low-A Clearwater.
