Harper shows off cannon arm with unreal throw
PHILADELPHIA -- Bryce Harper still has a cannon for an arm.
Harper threw out Nationals center fielder Victor Robles at third base on a throw from the warning track in right field during the second inning of Saturday night's game at Citizens Bank Park, which saw the Phils fall 4-3 to Washington. The throw reached Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco on the fly.
According to Statcast, Harper¡¯s throw traveled 310 feet, making it the longest tracked outfield assist in baseball this season and tied for the second-longest tracked outfield assist since Statcast¡¯s debut. A's center fielder Ramon Laureano had an assist tracked at 321 feet on Aug. 11, 2018. Harper¡¯s throw from 310 tied Yasiel Puig¡¯s 310-foot assist on April 22, 2016.
Harper's throw was clocked at 93.5 mph.
Robles' sprint speed was 29.7 feet per second (elite speed is 30-plus feet per second).
