CHICAGO ¨C The White Sox dropped a 4-3 decision in 10 innings to the Royals Wednesday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field, with their three-game winning streak coming to an end in one of the most eventful contests of the Rick Renteria era.

They also lost two players to injury, and their manager and starting shortstop to ejections after a bench-clearing, bullpen-clearing argument in the sixth.

White Sox starter Lucas Giolito was pulled in the third inning after experiencing left hamstring tightness, and third baseman Yoan Moncada left in the seventh for precautionary reasons after he was hit on the side of the head by a throw to second base during a stolen-base attempt in the fifth. The White Sox announced that concussion tests came back negative.

Giolito was unavailable for comment postgame, but Renteria said the right-hander would be re-evaluated later on Wednesday. Moncada, through interpreter Billy Russo, said he hopes to be back in the starting lineup against the Tigers on Thursday.

¡°I'm going to be better tomorrow, and I want to play tomorrow,¡± Moncada said. ¡°No concussion. I'm good. It's just a headache right now.¡±

Giolito threw a pitch to Alex Gordon that was fouled off and came up apparently injured on the mound. White Sox head athletic trainer Brian Ball and Renteria came to check on him and after Giolito threw a couple of practice pitches, he left the game. Ryan Burr replaced him with the game scoreless and two outs and finished off the Gordon strikeout.

In 2 2/3 innings, Giolito struck out five, walked one, hit one batter and didn¡¯t allow a hit.

¡°It was surprising, obviously. You never want anybody to get hurt,¡± Burr said. ¡°Usually we¡¯re not used to going into the game the second or third inning, but my name was called, and I went out there and just tried [to] keep the team in the game.

¡°I was proud of the way this team battled. I was proud of the way we handled that situation out there. There was a lot of passion in the game. I think that was good for everybody.¡±

Daniel Palka pinch-hit for Moncada in the seventh when Moncada¡¯s head started hurting and singled to left. That hit for Palka broke a 0-for-32 drought to start the season that extended to 0-for-34 back into 2018. Palka was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte after the game, after hitting into a double play with the bases loaded to end the eighth and grounding out to end the game.

All of this action worked around Tim Anderson being hit by a Brad Keller pitch with the first offering of the sixth and being tossed along with Renteria, Keller and Royals bench coach Dale Sveum. Anderson homered in the fourth, a two-run shot for No. 50 of his career, and threw his bat while yelling in celebration. But both of those moves were made toward the White Sox dugout.

¡°I¡¯m going to continue to be me and keep having fun,¡± Anderson said. ¡°Our fans, they pay their hard-earned money to come to the ballpark to see a show, so why don¡¯t I give them one?¡±

If Giolito is out for a stretch of time, the White Sox could move Manny Banuelos into the rotation and call up another long reliever such as Carson Fulmer. Dylan Covey would be another option.

In the interim, they have a short time to digest Wednesday¡¯s actions and reactions before playing a game in Detroit on Thursday afternoon.

¡°A lot of confidence,¡± said Anderson of his team. ¡°We are having a lot of fun and playing good ball. We are going to have fun. Continue to be us.¡±
